Crafting Colibries products…
After working for fashion, lifestyle industry for many years, with branded label collections. Thuy’s job was traveling the world bridging the gap between brand and suppliers. This lead her to build great friendships and relationships with her fellow compatriots but unfortunately also opened her eyes to witnessing another side of living as an artisan without job opportunities. Some renting their body to make a living; secretly kept for the outside world. The feeling of sadness kept gnawing her and at that point she decided to build her own brand, where she could have a say and create opportunities for artisan’s community to do the job they ‘re good at.
The name “Colibries” was inspired by the legend of the hummingbirds.
One day, says the legend, there was a huge forest fire. All the frightened animals looked helplessly at the disaster. Only the little hummingbird was busy. He took a few drops with his beak to throw them on the fire. Moments later, the armadillo, annoyed by this ridiculous excitement, said to him, “Hummingbird, aren’t you crazy? it is not with these drops of water that you will extinguish the fire!”
And the hummingbird replied, “I know, but I’m doing my part.”
The moral of this legend is that we can act on every level. Our actions may seem ridiculous, but thanks to the sum of hummingbirds things change.
Small-scale and providing work for skilled workers, the atelier is set-up with specialized equipment, lending Colibries products a slight artisanal touch. The daily operations are led by a good friend and has contributed to a happy work environment.
